Päiväkirjan kahdeksannessa osassa,
06.01.14 ,jatkamme matkaa kohti Uuden-Seelannin korkeinta vuorta, Mount Cookia / Aorakia, joka kohoaa 3754 metriin. Reitti Mount Cookin kylään, joka sijaitsee 770 metriä meren pinnan yläpuolella, vei Canterburyn tasankojen lävitse sekä turkoosin kirkkaiden järvien ohi kohti Eteläisiä Alppia sekä Mount Cookia.
Journal's part eight, 14/01/06 ,continued our journey towards New Zealand's Highest mountain, Mount Cook/ Aoraki, which rises to the 3754 meters above sea level. Our route to the Mount Cook Village (770 meters above sea level), took us through Canterbury plains and past of turquoise clear lakes towards Southern Alps and Mount Cook.
Aamulla kirjauduttiin ulos viime tingassa meidän motellista, joka oli huippu hyvä sekä aloitettiin 333 km ajomatka. Ajoin itse aina Geraldinen asti, jossa vaihdettiin kuljettajia. Äiti jatkoi aina Fairlien kylään asti, jonne pysähdyttiin tauolle ja ostamaan jäätelöä, NAM. Tauon jälkeen jatkettiin aina matkaa ennen kuin saavuttiin Lake Tekapon rannalle, jossa syötiin eväitä. Täältä jatkettiin sitten seuraavalle pysähdyspaikalle Lake Pukakin rannalle, jonne pysähdyttiin kuvailemaan Mount Cookia. Molemmat järvet, Lake Tekapo ja Pukaki saavat vetensä Eteläisiltä Alpeilta sekä ympäröiviltä vuorilta, josta ne saavat turkoosin värin vesiinsä.
In the morning we did our check out in the last minute from our motel where we were staying, which was super goog place and also started our 333 kilometers long ride. I drive all the way to Geraldine where we switched drivers. Our second stop was at the Fairlie village, where we boughted ice cream for us, NAM. After break we continued our journey to the next stop, the shore of Lake Tekapo where we ate our lunch. Our next sightseeing stop was at the shore of Lake Pukaki where we got great pictures of Mount Cook.
Pukakilta jatkettiin matkaa vielä itse Mount Cookin kylään, jossa yövyimme
YHA Mt. Cook hostellissa yhden yön verran. Paikka oli puu sisusteinen, siellä ollessa tuli lappimainen olo. Hostellissa olisi ollut myös sauna, mutta en kerennyt käydä kokeilemassa, miltä tuntuu saunoa Uudessa Seelannissa. Porukat kävi kävelemässä lenkin ympäristössä, mutta itse pysyin sisällä sen aikaa ennen kuin haettiin ruokaa
The Hermitage Hotel:lta. Oli hyvää ruokaa. Koko reitti Christchurhista aina Mount Cookille on tosi hieno, kun näkee todella hyvin miten ilmasto ja maisemat muuttuvat.
From Pukaki we continued our ride to the Mount Cook Village ,where we stay at the YHA Mt. Cook hostel for one night. Place had wooden decor, I got there feel of Finland's Lapland when we stay there. In hostel there was also sauna but I hadn't had time to try out that. We also picked up food from The Hermitage Hotel. It was really good food. Whole trip from Christchurh to Mount Cook was really great. You got to see how climate and landscape change.
